    Cannibal! The Musical

    Read the Offoffoff review

The newly founded Saturday Players present their inaugural production, the New York Premiere of Cannibal!: The Muiscal, Live on Stage. This high camp muiscal comedy is a stage adaptation of the 1995 independent film that launched the career of South Park creators Trey Parker (screenplay, music and lyrics) and Matt Stone (lead actor in the film). Saturday Players is presenting Cannibal! in association with New Cannibal Society and, two organizations under the direction of Jason McHugh, the producer of the original Cannibal! film.

The stage version, adapted by Saturday Players Artistic Director Lisa Gardner and directed by Joan Eileen Murray, begins performances March 3rd at The Kraine Theater. Cannibal!: The Musical, Live on Stage is a fictionalized account of Alfred Packer, the only American ever to be convicted of cannibalism. Packer is the legendary Colorado Cannibal of the 1870s, a cult figure among students on many college campuses in that state. The musical tells the tale of Packer and his beloved horse Liane who leads a group of gold miners through the blizzards of the Colorado Rockies. Naturally, the group gets lost, tempers flare and the bitter cold begins to take its toll. The group is forced to resort to unthinkable horrors — including musical numbers like When I Was on Top of You, Hang the Bastard, Let's Build A Snowman, and Shpadoinkle Day! When Packer returns as the sole survivor, a rescue team finds the partially consumed corpses and Parker is convicted of cannibalism.
