The Best of the Six Characters, Live

The creators of the downtown cult hits Six Characters in Search of a Working Title and The Six Characters Cometh return to the stage with their best material and audience favorites. Taking stylistic inspiration from Mummenschanz, Buster Keaton, and Looney Tunes, The Six Characters delve into the great mysteries of the universe and retell historic tales — -making the epic ridiculous and the ridiculous profound. This evening at the Gershwin Hotel is part of a series of performance events produced by downtown artist Neke Carson (Atomic Bicycle, Andy Warhols Rectal Realism). Other recent performers in the series have included Debbie Harry, Penny Arcade, John Torreano and many others. The Six Characters have been creating original work in New York for over four years. Their unique blend of silent movies and cartoons with the live stage experience has earned them a cult following in both experimental theater and comedy circles. Their pieces encapsulate entire epochs and classic narratives into short wordless vignettes that celebrate human-kinds absurdity and obsession with falling over oddly shaped things. The Six Characters ensemble is a Member Company in Residence with Fractured Atlas. Vote for pieces to be performed at
