The play is the story of Lucy, who crosses the continent to find "the big love." In a succession of surreal, contorted affairs, she fails to reconcile her driving need for ideal love with its reality. On her way, she is distracted by her obsessive admiration for a celebrated "black widow" — America's Most Wanted Woman, an astrophysicist who is a serial killer, and for that woman's revenge methods. "That Woman" coaches Lucy through many relationships that lead her to "the Big Love" upon completion of her East to West Journey. Lucy's quest is supported by an ensemble of actors playing multiple roles in the play, which director Amy Feinberg describes as an "escape from realism through poetry." Ms. Feinberg brings the play to NY audiences having directed a workshop version at HERE in July 2000 and a full production at Hollywood's Court Theatre in September, 2001. Playwright Melanie Marnich belongs to that cohort of American playwrights whose trademark is utilization of language to replace or enhance action. In this play, with metaphors from Botany, Geology, Geography, Astronomy and Astrology, she struggles to find beauty in the ordinary while warring with the extraordinary.
