    Frankenstein

The Flying Machine will apply its signature performance style — a unique blend of storytelling that combines music, movement and novel stage designs — to Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN, re-imagining Shelley's classic ode to the misbegotten as a gothic winter's fairy tale. Formed by a group of theater makers in Paris in 1996, The Flying Machine is an international ensemble of artists whose work blends text, mime, dance, live music and found objects. FRANKENSTEIN marks The Flying Machine's fourth production with Soho Rep: in addition to 2002 — 2003 season's SIGNALS OF DISTRESS, Soho Rep presented The Flying Machine's ARCHIPELAGO in 2001 and THE ESCAPIST in 1999. The Flying Machine's other productions, including SAD SINCE TUESDAY and UTOPIANS, have been performed in the US and abroad. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Daniel Aukin and Executive Director Alexandra Conley, Soho Rep developmental theater company is dedicated to cultivating and producing new and unconventional plays. They perform to one of the youngest adult audiences in New York City, with over three-quarters of its audience aged 18-35. Over the last six seasons, Soho Rep productions have garnered five OBIE Awards, most recently for Maria Irene Fornes' MOLLY'S DREAM. Directed by Joshua Carlebach — the cast of FRANKENSTEIN includes: Richard Crawford, Carine Montbertrand, Jason Lindner, Tami Stronach, Josh Koehn, Robert Ross Parker, and Damian Baldet. Design team for FRANKENSTEIN is as follows: sets by Marisa Frantz, costumes by Theresa Squire, sound by Jeff Lorenz, lighting by Japhy Weideman, and music by Jacob Lawson. Additional text for FRANKENSTEIN provided by Jason Lindner. The Flying Machine has been described by the Village Voice as "visionaryunflaggingly inventive." In its review of SIGNALS OF DISTRESS, which premiered at Soho Rep September 2002, New York Times' Bruce Weber wrote "this is the art of adaptation"; and Time Out New York's David Cote called the production "an exemplary translation of fiction into theater."
