    The Barksdale Confession

Peter Barksdale is a charismatic conservative academic who turns a sleepy midwestern college town into a white-hot intellectual center of the American right wing. As his son P.J. struggles to emerge from his father's shadow, their lives are shattered when it is revealed that Peter Barksdale has been having a fifteen-year affair with his son's wife. Based on actual events, "THE BARKSDALE CONFESSION" tells the story of three characters caught in the rising tide of success as Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich remake American politics. This story of family betrayal is set against a backdrop of right-wing greed, lust and hypocrisy. Playwright WILLIAM C. KOVACSIK'S previous work includes "Scales of Justice" which was named Best Play in the 1999 Dayton Playhouse FutureFest and had its premiere at the Long Beach Playhouse. "Slice of Immortality" was given a staged reading by the Lark Theatre Company in New York, and was subsequently performed in the Carnegie Mellon Summer New Plays Project, directed by Michael Montel and starring two-time Tony Award nominee Lewis J. Stadlen. His play "The Run of the River" was named Best Play of the 1995 Pittsburgh New Works Festival by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Mr. Kovacsik has taught playwrighting at Carnegie Mellon University and Pittsburgh Public Theater.
