Chocolate in Heat: Growing Up Arab in America

A play of interlocking monologues infused with music and dance about love, sex, privilege, and the problems of growing up in between two cultures. The show sold out at the NYC Fringe Festival in August 2001. CHOCOLATE IN HEAT stars writer Betty Shamieh whose play Roar will premiere at the New Group Off-Broadway in March 2004. Her essay about her recent trip to the Palestinian territories with a delegation of American playwrights was published in American Theatre in their July/August 2003 issue. A recipient of the New Dramatists Van Lier Fellowship, Betty is a graduate of Harvard College and the Yale School of Drama. It also stars Piter Fattouche who performed in the first production of Chocolate in Heat at the 2001 NYC Fringe Festival, Mother Lolita at Urban Stages off-Broadway, and Cry Havoc at InterAct. Piter has played innumerable comedic and tragic Arab roles on shows like The Education of Max Bickford, LA and Order, the Conan O'Brien show, and the Late Show with David Letterman.
