    Chemistry Lab

It is the fall of 1977 in the northern New Hampshire town of Woodbury, several years before the start of the AIDS crisis and two decades before crimes like the murder of Matthew Shepard could raise national outrage. High school senior class president Bobby Miller has the whole house to himself for the night, and he has arranged for the lowly outcast of the class, Adrian Beane, to join him there to work together on a social studies project. However, it soon becomes clear that Bobby has other things on his mind besides doing homework: He wants to try out homosexuality, and thinks Adrian — soft-spoken, socially inept, and suspected by many to be gay — will make the perfect lab partner for this experiment. And so, he seduces Adrian into a love affair — warm, tender, and TOP SECRET. Thus begins "CHEMISTRY LAB," Ben Alexander's disturbing story of sexual curiosity, misplaced hero worship, and violent bigotry, a drama which explores why it can be deadly just to be "different."
