    The Blacks: A Clown Show

Classical Theater of Harlem (CTH) will continue their fourth season with a new production of Jean Genet's avant-garde classic. A white woman has been murdered. She's lying on stage in a coffin, covered by a sheet. Who is she? What's happened? And why are the Blacks reenacting her rape and murder? THE BLACKS: A CLOWN SHOW tells the story of a troupe of black actors who reenact the ritualistic rape and murder of a white woman before a court of black actors elaborately masked as caricatures of the English upper class. CTH will also be holding a special event on Monday, February 3rd at the Schomburg Center for Research and Black Culture in Harlem honoring the play and the talented artists who worked on it, both past and present. The Classical Theatre of Harlem is a dynamic and unique theatre company dedicated to producing the classics for a new, young, and culturally diverse audience. Since 1999, CTH has presented twelve classic plays, garnered 24 AUDELCO nominations for Excellence in Black Theatre, and won a 2001 OBIE Award, off-Broadway's most prestigious honor. The company was recently invited to join radio station WNYC as a Cultural Partner; other member groups include The Public Theater, Second Stage and the American Symphony Orchestra.
