Good "Sports"
"TheatreSports" turns improv comedy into an action-packed showdown of wits.

The high-energy actors participating in "TheatreSports" bring a competitive element to their particular brand of improv. Split into two teams, the actors challenge each other to successfully perform skits that get rated by a panel of judges. The results are very funny.

| On the night we caught the Freestyle Rep crew, the two teams, named Grooveenergy Nyquil Buzz and Sugar Rush, performed a skit where a man invents trends while shoe shopping, a skit where a muumuu is the catalyst for someone jumping out a window, a murder mystery set in a disco, and a domestic drama set in Kandahar, Afghanistan, involving a juicer.
The actors Jessica Calter, William Cefalo, Mike Durkin, Laura Livingston, Matty Merrill, Laura Valpey and Julianne Ziegler were vibrant and practically glowing with enjoyment at what they do, which made for a fun experience. Audience members were asked to shout out suggestions of places and things, and there was a prize drawing for tickets to an off-Broadway production at the Intar Theater. Much more interactive and enjoyable than staying home and watching a sitcom, "Theatersports" is quite a treat.
