"South Park" co-creator Trey Parker tells the hilarious and uplifting story of the famous Alferd Packer expedition as it probably didn't happen, in "Cannibal! The Musical."

If you're a "South Park" fan who still finds yourself humming "Blame Canada"
from the movie musical version of that cartoon series, then you'll
definitely enjoy the boisterous "Cannibal! The Musical," which was written by
South Park co-creator Trey Parker.

Based on the 1995 Troma film
that launched Parker and Matt Stone's career and infused with the same style
of humor as "South Park," "Cannibal!" tells the story
of Alferd Packer, who in 1880s Colorado was convicted of cannibalism after
a doomed gold expedition in the Rockies. Relayed in flashbacks as Packer
(played with radiance by Ryan Brack) describes the ill-fated trek to amorous
reporter Polly Pry, "Cannibal!" sports a colorful cast of characters.
Among the guys searching for gold there's a Bible-happy would-be priest, a
sex-crazed teenager and a cockeyed optimist, plus Packer's horse, played by
the comely blonde Nadine Klein. The group encounters three trappers (with
whom a rivalry that winks at "West Side Story" ensues), a Japanese-accented
Indian chief and Jesus (in hilarious cameos).
The songs, with
titles like "Shpadoinkle," "Don't Be Stupid," "When I was On Top Of You"
and "Hang The Bastard," are infectious and very funny, making one suspect
that Parker's got a real affection for musical theater. There are more than a
few sight gags, such as a river-crossing scene involving a tie-dyed sheet
and the exposed buttocks of the guys in Packer's party, plus an impressive
tap-dancing sequence. An altogether tasty show.
