Let's go serpent now
The Black Eyed Snakes play the blues with influences from Muddy Waters to The Fall, topped with, um, a patina of skronk.

The Black Eyed Snakes play a form of the blues that's irresistibly twisted
and lovingly coated with noise. If you witnessed their set at Maxwell's on
September 29 you saw the combustion in action, especially when "Big House"
Bobby Olson's guitar fell to pieces while he was playing it.

The Black Eyed
Snakes hail from Duluth, Minnesota — the Central Hillside area of town, to be
exact (allegedly a not-so-nice area and where Bob Dylan hails from) and
maybe that's got some thing to do with why their sound is so unique.
They don't seem to be pledging allegiance to any one particular region of
blues but meld something traditional into something current.
They do standard numbers like "Mannish Boy," and "Smokestack Lightnin" on their CD
"It's The Black Eyed Snakes," but also cover The Fall's "My New House"
— giving each interpretation a patina of skronk that makes you wanna stamp
your feet or shout.
The band consists of Olson on guitar, "Chicken Bone"
George on guitar and vocals and "Smokin" Brad Nelson on drums. (George also
is one of the members of the supremely glacial Low.) These shows should be a
treat as they are opening up for the always-rocking Man Or Astro Man.
