By DAWN EDEN Offoffoff.com When Richard Barone performs this Saturday, November 13, at Fez under Time Cafe, it will be his first full-length New York live concert in three years. No, the former leader of Hoboken's legendary Bongos hasn't spent that time in the sandbox, even though he is an acknowledged Brian Wilson fan. He has been doing guest spots at shows such as the Loser's Lounge series (he is in fact producing the upcoming Loser's Lounge CD), the "Beat Goes On" series (he hosted the "Hullaballoo" installment), and last September's Kosova Relief Fund Concert at the Bottom Line. The latter include the Kosova Relief Fund CD "Refuge" (also featuring tracks by Melanie and Peter Gabriel, Freedy Johnston, Toshi Reagon, and others, on Orchard Records) and the long-awaited Bobby Fuller tribute, "Our Favorite Texan — Bobby Fuller Four-Ever" (#9 Records [Japan]). Barone has also been in the studio with producer Tony Visconti, working on his first studio album since 1993's "Clouds Over Eden" (Mesa). To anyone familiar with the artist's style, Visconti sounds like a perfect match, having produced classic albums by such Barone favorites as T. Rex and David Bowie. Visconti will play bass in Barone's band at the Fez show, along with Loser's Lounge maestro Joe McGinty on piano, downtown diva Connie Petruc on backing vocals, Lisa Haney on cello, Tommy Goss on drums, Rob Keith on guitar, and special guests. The latter could quite possibly include frequent Barone collaborator Jill Sobule. Opening is another Loser's Lounge artist, Jennifer Jackson, and the Green Rooftops, whose drummer includes "Beat Goes On" promoter Ed Rogers.
