  •  REVIEW: HEY, HAPPY!

    Hey, Happy!

    Happy get lucky?

"Hey, Happy," a trippy odyssey through the Canadian junkyards tracking one rave DJ's quest for his 2,000th lay, is like club music itself — hypnotic if you give yourself over to it.

"Hey, Happy!" is a fairy tale but not one for the kids. Set in the dreary junkyards of Winnipeg, the film tells the tale of DJ Sabu, who toils by day in an outdoor porno mart and has been on a quest to sleep with 2000 guys.

    HEY, HAPPY!
Written and directed by: Noam Gonick.
Cast: Jeremie Yuen, Craig Aftanis, Clayton Godson, John Simone, Dita, Chelsey Perfanick, Sylvia Dueck, Lola Wong, Geoff Banjavich..
He's one guy short and has his sights set on squarish yet cute Happy, who carries around a radio and is convinced that aliens are coming. In the way of these two guys getting together is Spanky, the multi-pierced evil hairdresser who is also the self-proclaimed "biggest bitch in the world." The guys pursue each other while the airwaves are filled with talk of an oncoming flood of biblical proportions. Sabu DJs at a rave on Garbage Hill and provides a soundtrack to the vogueings of some local prostitutes.

"Hey, Happy" is a trippy, phantasmagorical film and if you can give yourself over to it and give in to the charismatic characters and their odd doings you'll probably enjoy the ride. The party scenes at the rave on Garbage Hill are very arthritic-looking depictions of people grooving to good music (the soundtrack to the film is top-quality dance tunes) in the middle of nowhere. Although sex is the motivation behind the main characters' actions, there's a pervading sense of innocence to this film, which makes it charming.
