     REVIEW: INCORRECT MUSIC VIDEO

    The ear's worst movies

Twice a year, the area's most incorrect deejays can't be prevented from showing a program of music videos ranging from unlistenable to unwatchable.

With William Shatner now satirizing his own "singing" career in TV ads, the area's most incorrect deejays are going to have to dig even deeper for a brand-new batch of please-make-it-stop musical moments in this weekend's Incorrect Music Video show.

    INCORRECT MUSIC VIDEO
Hosted by Irwin Chusid and Michelle Boule, hosts of Incorrect Music on WFMU, 91.1 FM.

What, you ask, is Incorrect Music Video? It's the brainchild of Irwin Chusid and Michelle Boulé (left), who host the weekly "Incorrect Music" program Wednesdays on WFMU (91.1 FM), a jaw-dropping parade of tone-deaf celebrities, self-recorded mad geniuses, earnest lovers of God and country, steamy sexologists and space-traveling visionaries. And once in a while, in their quest for lesser and lesser known gems, they get hold of a music video so hideously unwatchable that people will pay good money to subject themselves to it in a Greenwich Village nightclub.

Last fall's program included Shatner's emotive tribute to Sinatra, "It Was a Very Good Year," as well as David Bowie's unendurable foray into mime, and the world's smallest man performing the suggestive "Mahow" dance with a mortar and pestle. This year's show — with Irwin, Michelle and guest host Don Brockway — promises new discoveries, such as:

  • Little Marcy (at top of page) — actually a grown woman who adopts the persona of an evangelist baby doll to perform such classics as "If You're Saved and You Know It." (Click here to hear another Little Marcy favorite, "I Love Little Pussy", from the IM web site.)

  • Voluptuous octogenarian Mae West romancing Timothy Dalton in "Sextette" to the tune of Mae West and Timothy Dalton
  • Love Will Keep Us Together.

  •   James Rebel O'Leary. in Incorrect Music Video
      James "Rebel" O'Leary.
  • Country "legend" James "Rebel" O'Leary, who appears to have forced his unmusical family members against their will to accompany him on the Pennsylvania county fair circuit. (Fans of The Shaggs will want to compare and contrast the O'Leary clan's signature sound on RealAudio.)

  • And finally, a cable-access performance from Iowa that Irwin notes had to be placed near the end of the program so it wouldn't interfere with people's dinners.

    Bon appetit.
