Subject: Can't tell about the blue rose

there's definitely some supernatural stuff going on here though. If you take this movie in the context of Twin Peaks, there are suddenly dozens of similarities. And one important point from the Fire Walk With Me was the scene with Chris Isaak, that Sutherland guy, and the lady in red. Anyway, the lady in red gives the two fbi agents a message. Chris Isaak translates the entire message to the new guy - with one exception. He can't tell about the blue rose. Anyway most TPers have deduced the blue rose to have some kind of supernatural meaning (who's ever heard of a blue rose anyway?). There is probably some kind of tie in between the blue rose in twin peaks and the blue keys/box in mulholland. Also, the lady at Silencio immediately reminds of the lady in red in twin peaks. Do you guys have any ideas on this stuff?

Less supernatural than you think!
I think you've all missed the key to the movie. We were not seeing life through the eyes of a dead person, we were seeing the dream of a victimized small town girl, who was distroyed by hollywood. The movie begins with heavy breathing and a first person perspective of someone lying down on a red pillow. This is diane falling asleep. From that point on, every scene in which we see diane/betty, we are witness to her dream. Scenes in which she is vacant are real. Through out the dream we are witness to a idealized version of diane. One who can handle any problem, one who will survive on incredible acting tallent and one who is loved by a beautifull starlett. All this changes when we hear the cowboy way, "Wake up little girl." At this point diane wakes from her dream and is thrust into an awfull reality. She hasn't made it, she has failed and her one true love has left her for a hot shot movie director. She is then invited by Rita to a dinner and witnesses a sickening display of affection between rita and the director. They inform her of their plans to get married and in a jelouse rage diane hires a hit man to kill rita. Diane is unaware the hit went wrong. Stricken by guilt and a sense that athorities were closing in, she has a nervous break down and decides to kill herself. That was the movie in a nutshell. If anyone needs clarification or has questions EMAIL me.
