you made your point...
but i dont get your point though, why?
simply because you don't give in depth observation to a movie.View the movie again(i really suggest that)YOu even wondered why the title was named like that.I've been to that place, we visited after the movie. I brought my college history class there.hmmmmmmm, But even if you don't visit the place. Common sense and sense of Artistry as well would tell you why it was called Mga Munting Tinig!!!
I could have flunked you if i handled that subject.

i'm disappointed... really.
when we were asked to make a movie analysis as a part of the requirements in our english (Literature) subject on Mga Munting Tinig, i got so excited knowing that it had gathered praises from foregn lands. i hadn't watched it before, so i expected that it would be the best movie i've ever watched after. i expected it to come up, if not as good was better than the movies i'd watched before like 'anak'(top-billed by claudine baretto and vilma santos), 'bata, bata pano ka ginawa' (top-billed by vilma santos and serena dalrymple and carlo aquino) and the likes. but, after watching it, i think i expected too much. if i were to rate it... in fairness to the respected director Mr. Portes, 5/10.
the movie is not touching, except on the least part where the children sang. and what touches me there was the song. just the song of the children nothing on the screen. u can close ur eyes and hear the song and be touched.
alessandra de rossi's performance for me is poor. she's not convincing me at all. she cannot move me with her simple lines. i now not wonder why she didn't make it as the best actress for that movie. but what disturbs me is why Mr. Portes chose alessandra to do another movie, the homecoming?
the story itself has conflicts. why was it named Mga Munting Tinig? according to the synopsis, because the children's little voices was heard on the choral contest. yes, literally, the voices were heard. but, what change does the heard voices made on the rural place of Malawaig, a very poor province which is at the same time rebel-infested. while i was watching, i thought, the conflict of the story is man vs. society, for the villagers of Malawig struggle against poverty(everyone was working including the children), illiteracy(the school, the materials and the teachers) and political change (the rebels' business on the mountains). but the story didn't show how the conflicts was given their own remedies. what happened was, the children sang on the choral contest and won. that was it. the conflict turned out to be, man vs. man. for melinda(the freshly graduate teacher which was played by alessandra de rossi) fought for the consent of the parents letting their children join the contest.
i think, the story revolved on the contest, not on the theme they wanted to show.
but still, the contest didn't do any change on the village. only on Mrs. Pantalan (the school principal) she learned to give an amount of money for the children for their snack while practicing.
and what more? the children were inspired. but that move is not touching. Gela (one of the graduating students who aimed to be a nurse) told his mother that a girl is not only for marrying, housekeeping and child-bearing, she also needs to be educated.
and also, up to now, im still asking myself: why were the children permitted to join the contest? my father is similar to the father of that one boy, who is not permitted because there are too many works to be done. i cant understand how they were able to convince him. i know men like them are real hard to convince. because my father is like that. the movie didnt show it. why were the children allowed to the practices? how about the excuses and reasons of the parents?
ah! i don't know! basta, im disappointed by the movie. i think, i should watch "LIFE AS A HOUSE" and "BEFORE AND AFTER" na lang uli. naku po, try nyo! hindi award-winning to, at hindi mga sikat na foreign movies. but they really were touching and moving. after watching them, marerealize mo: "OO NGA. TAMA UNG MESSAGE NG MOVIE". gasgas na rin ang mga themes nila pero iba pa rin ung movie sa iba.
till here... sana mali ung mga observations ko. but if i were wrong, i think, hindi lang ako ang nagkamali ng observations... marami kami...
good day!
God bless!!!
