I felt that this film wasn't so much about 'resolutions' but rather 'consequences'. Rather than the film putting across a moral ideal it gave it's audience the opportunity to view a series of confronting scenarios and posses the knowledge behind each of the situations to empathise with the characters instead of just tearing the character's, and there undesirable behaviour, apart. Nothing is meaningless. If someone was to pick a brief period from your life and analyse it they would gain knowledge and understanding and build their own views from the multitude of little interactions and reactions you demonstrate - not seek some kind of underlying, greater understanding or trait that defines your whole being. That's what I feel this film is trying communicate and that's why I really enjoyed it.

    Not enough light and shade

I hated the amber filters, made NZ look crap instead of beautiful, and how did the entire number of Kiwis who don't know how to party manage to get together in the same room?!
The story is about a numb, disconnected and depressed family who become even MORE depressed!! Jeez! There is no resolution whatsoever, just despair.
I wish it had been more transparent like a a french movie. But I enjoyed some parts including a few good movie shots and the music choices. I think that Christine Jeffs needs more insight, like Bergman, to make these movies riveting.
