My wife and I have been asking that question ever since we saw the movie. We even went back and watched the scene in which Hiro dies over and over. Then we watched a bonus scene where they interviewed the woman about his death, but it still never explained his death. If anyone can explain this, I would greatly appreciate a clarification.

I hate to be an idiot, but exactly how did Hiro die?
He jumped in the water, but did he break his neck,
crack his spine? What? Why didn't Sandy tell him of the impending danger in whatever he did to himself? Obviously, it was her turf.
