No ghosts in this one I don't think.
Mary was just a girl that went insane and gave us a name a place for these emotions that we try to keep hidden, that we can not explain. Her uncontrollable rage came from abuse, pain that created the wound that brought out "her" simon.
The movies was about someoneâs trip into that area of there id. The one we are afraid of that haunts us, but apolize for after we have snapped at someone for no reason or over reacted to a situation that was not as bad as it seem at that moment. The stress of needing a job that bad, and the weakness to put yourself in a situation that will end up in failer, to be followed up by the guilt of a celebration of false success. The hot water on the leg was just a trigger for his "simon" to come out.
Possession is not what this was about. No ghosts running through the halls waiting for innocent victims to come along and take control of. This movie was about "US" our simons. The tapes were just letting us know that "Simon" is there, waiting for us to break down to the point were emotion is taking control and not logic or reason.
