    Reader comments on Downfall

    Subject: whitewashing history

Its suprising that a reviewer who so attentively saw through the propaganda that was "Hero", would fail completely to see the propaganda that is "Downfall".
For those who are not familiar with the history of Nazi Germany you should know that Hitler was not a puppet master with all those around being foolish and naive.
I am in debt to a great article in the Guardian that pointed out some of the mistakes in the movie. For instance, the women who was his secretary was not some naive girl who knew nothing about the Nazi's as the movie claims, rather its the complete opposite. She was highly indoctrinated and motived years prior to her service.
And those SS figures around Hitler were very enthusiastic, while the film portrays them as mere dupes.
Basically this film panders to the german guilt complex that says "we were all tricked by this wicked man". If only it were that simple.
