Reader comments on Bukowski: Born into This

    Subject: Re: help with poem

This poem, 'art' was originally published as the 1977 New Year Greeting by Black Sparrow Press. This is the small boxed edition that John Martin read from in the film.

The poem was later collected in the 1979 volume, 'Play The Piano Drunk Like A Percussion Instrument Until The Fingers Begin To Bleed A Bit'. It is the final poem in the book, page 125. Its a very short poem, and here it is, entirely:

    art

    as the
    spirit
    wanes
    the
    form
    appears.

    help with poem

In the film, the publisher from Black Sparrow Press reads this poem by Bukowski that I think was called "Art". It basically goes, "As desire fades, form appears." I've been trying to find a copy of this in any of his collections of poems, but I can't. Can anybody help me?
    Thanks!
