Reader comments on Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter ... and Spring
Subject: my thoughts.
Date: Feb 22, 2005
I think the film is actually a refute to buddhism. It seems to me that the older monk by his suicide and the covering of his mouth, eyes, and ears, is turning his back on buddhism. The younger man also takes out a statue that had been hidden in a cabinet. He takes it to the top of the mountain and sets it up higher than the buddha statue. He is therfore placing that idol above buddha. Anyways that just my thoughts. But im an American and dont know alot about all the buddhist traditions.

Addendum to previous commentary
If permitted, I would like to submit an addendum to my 2nd commentary of 12/8/04. The buddha's "principles" mentioned in that commentary are of an anti-metaphysical and anti-supernatural nature since he was a thoroughly down to earth empiricist. It is indeed odd when supernaturalism is attributed to buddhism.
