I agree with Paul!!!! This is one of the best films ever made! I agree on the whole substance of your comment. L‡zaro Ramos is a great, great actor!! He should be nominated to the Oscar. Certainly Brazil will never nominate this wonderful film to show the deep contradictions in their society·

    Response to this comment:
One of the best films ever made

This is one of the best movies, ever... and in my humble oppinion it's destined to become a classic. Karim A•nouz and all his team really did a fantastic job with this movie. As far as L‡zaro Ramos, the actor who plaid the main character, I just hope that he gets new opportunities to show his talents and charisma. This movie completely debunks the common myth that exists, especially in the minds of a lot of Brazilians, but also embraced and propagated by many Brazilianists, that there is no discrimination in Brazilian society (racial democracy). Brazilians of African descent (be they black or mostly or partly black) are overwhelmingly poorer than other Brazilians and with that also with lesser access to higher education, healthcare, jobs, etc. This movie is really universal, after all. It shows how complex and conflicted human beeings can be. Translation of my comment in Portuguese: Este filme Ž um dos melhores filmes jamais produzidos... e em minha humilde opini‹o ele est‡ destinado a se tornar um cl‡ssico.
