This was a really good movie. I admit, I knew hardly anything about the Spanish civil war and even now I'm still rather ignorant of its details and such. But watching this movie revealed to me the pain and hardships the people of Spain had to go through- whether they were Repuiblicans or Nationalists. The community that Moncho lived inside was pretty peaceful and serene at first. That image was shattered as the tension between the two opposing groups grew. The fear that arose divided family and friends, and forced many to betray their own beliefs (and their friends as well). Most people would think about the fighting between the soldiers when they think about war. Many would not consider the quarrels WITHIN small communities like Moncho's home. The feeling of guilt from betrayal was probably just as painful as getting hurt while fighting in the war, and that is what young Moncho, at the age of 8, had to learn and feel. ...How sad. =(
