I strongly diagree with much that was said in Pablo Hernandez's review on Mar Adentro. Though he pointed out many of the film's outstanding features, the underlying premise of the review was this:
The film was a masterpiece but I didn't like it because I disagree with the point of view that was presented in the film.
The review sounded as though the author was trying to convince himself of his moral superiority (albeit unsucccesfully). The closed-mindedness of the review reminded me that there are individuals out there who cannot even consider other points of view.
I believe that the point the movie focused on was the lack of choice the protagonist had in determining his fate, if nothing else. Whether or not you agree or disagree with the theme of this film, it is well worth watching. Understanding the main character and his struggle does not mean that one is obligated to wish for death in the same situation.
Honestly - come on!
