    Reader comments on Oasis

    Subject: Yours, an honest review

I applaud Mr. Tanzer for the candor in expressing the difficulty he's had with the film. It IS difficult material. The film treads (or tramples) the fine line between brutal realism and offensive provocation/ manipulation. Art may or may not be separate from Morality, but in this case, Art was obviously meant to challenge it as a part of its impact. So Morality is an issue here, whether we like it or not. And the fact that it does make the viewer deal with it is a credit to the film. But as for me, the jury's still out on whether the end justifies the means here. In the end, however, it'll still be an unforgettable film in my mind.
