    Reader comments on 7th Street

I am 40 and have stories similar to those of 7th Street. I was born in the Bronx, but my real story of a way of life being bought and bulldozed into the ground comes from somewhere else. No matter the place, the point is the same. I do not know where all of the soulless people come from; the ones who don't know their neighbors, and could never appreciate just sitting on a stoop all day and watching the world go by for a while. And perhaps to nurse a bottle, or three; that's not the crime that society today makes it out to be. But the soulless are multiplying, and multiplying fast- soon, nobody will know anybody else and a neighborhood will be rated solely by how close it is to a Wal-Mart. I will get off of my soapbox now, it doesn't matter anyway because it sems that most folks today prefer to go on without a soul and could never understand what I am talking about anyway.

The end of the movie 7th Street broke my heart, because of the way that, in the end, it broke the hearts of people like Rino Thunder, and Merlin; people that I never knew but had the misfortune of outliving their place. The folks who took over their place think that all they missed were some dirty bums and drunks but they could not and would not know what they really missed; they missed life itself.
