The Documentary on HBO
I am a 40 year old white female. I am married and have 3 natural kids and 4 step-children. I have three grandchildren. I am a nurse, a christian, the mother of a child with ADHD with behavorial disturbances due to fetal trauma at childbirth, and the ex-wife of a persistant felony offender who never-ever paid child support. He is currently incarcerated. I feel mixed emotions about this because for oone reason, I believe God gives you life and God should be the only one to take a life. I have a just God who delivers punishments/consequences as He sees fit. If life imprisonment isn't enough-then, shame on those people of Oklahoma and elsewhere that question God's authority. Point being, I have spent the last 15 years dealing with two children whose father has been in and out of correctional facilities since they were born. That in itself is a consequence for the incarcerated knowing the children are just as deprived if not filled with rage and emotional voids...the whole family suffers. I chose to end the marriage due to my disgust at his behavior. I can say that the stories I have heard about Minimal and Medim security prisons have not been pretty. I couldn't even imagine what a maximum security prison would be like. My point with that statement is that life in prison could not be anything but a "Hell on Earth". Some of the worst evils of this earth are housed in our prison systems. I think that the victims sister when she said "...an eye for an eye.." and "I think she should have to feel it..they ought to electrocute her.." has no idea about the justness of our God. What about all the mental and emotional feelings Wanda Jean had to experience in those months preceding her death? What about all the sisters, mothers and daughters that are in the prison system that no-doubtly let their feelings about the murder out in a physical sense? What about all of the "hate gay people" abusers. Does she or the other lawmakers of that state not think that people get abused and tortured in the prison system? Have they never heard they proverb.."those without sin, cast the first stone"? A sin is a sin is a sin...only God should be able to take the life of another human. I have witnessed a multitude of situations where God takes care of it! Just like with the childsupport- I was always threatened with physical threats--I know what he is capable of- but like I told him one day..."God will provide for us,you are just depriving your children...but God WILL take care of YOU..I have given it over to Him" Surely, within 6 months, he was again, indited for some criminal wrong-doing..that punishment plus a persistant felony offender charge. He will not be out of prison until his children are adults. He had fun with his kids, money, drugs and women while he was free: what does he have now? I believe that the seed of guilt is set when the criminals commit their acts and it steadily snowballs into a torturous insanity. But, on the flipside, I do believe that people can change-with Gods help. I also felt sorry for the brother at the end for thinking that Wanda Jean "felt no remorse" and that she was making fun of them. Obviously, he has never-or he has yet to feel the peace and serenity of confessing his sins and being forgiven. He has never been visited by "The Comforter" There was not a thing Wanda Jean could have done to bring the victim back. Gloria's mother was at peace. What I saw was that Wanda Jean had many trials and hardships in her life, she knew what she had done, she kept hope and faith until the very end and she tried to instill that hope and faith into others- she was in fact, being a vessel for God. She had accepted God's Will for her life and she was ready to "Go Home". As for the mental retardation part of the argument, how could that court, state,Govenor, prosecutors and media justify killing another humanbeing because "they weren't Mentally-Ill"? Are they saying we should be like Hitler and kill off people that are weak? Should we just go ahead and kill or imprison the children that suffer brain-injuries, ADHD, or other developmental deficits because they will grow up to be a part of society that isn't socially or politically correct? Dementia and Alzheimer's can be treated with medicine and therapy due to them being "physical-deficits" of the brain.a.k.a. brain-injured. There is no label of mental-retardation to justify their violent, disgusting and socially inappropriate behavior because they are "OLD". I work in long-term care...from the staff, they get the same love and care as anyone else; they just take a little extra time. But hey, there is another injustice, where these "lawmakers/regulators" attempt to control the amount of medicine and what type of medicine a person takes just by a "diagnosis". They have no idea what this person needs. Society and they "Holier-than-thou" people will stand in judgement one of these days.
