Hi!
Just watched the movie for a second time and decided to check out some opinions from the web. On the Scandinavian DVD we actually get 10 Lynch clues to unravell the movie (I doubt these have actually been given by Lynch...) Anyhow, "And Now Something Completely Different":
In my opinion the opening bright figures of Betty with her parents (assumption) are from her celebrations of her winning the "back home" Jitterburg competition. At the end of the movie we are shown the same bright figures of Betty and Camila. I would see this as their joint success in the same competition back home.
Coming together to LA to become stars, Camila is succesful but Betty is not. However, Camila feeling sorry for Betty keeps her around. Betty secretly loves Camila. However, in the desperation of realising that she can't make it in LA without Camila and simultaniosly not being able to be ridiculed by her, Betty decides to have her killed. Not the best solution (as it results in her suicide) but one made in a pretty messed up state of mind.
Do you find any space for this view?
