Reader comments on Ana Mendieta: Earth Body / Filmworks and Drawings

    Subject: Hirschhorn Exhibit
    Date: Nov 24, 2004
    Sender: Ana MendietaPrevious | Next

I first encountered this artist's work at the Hirschhorm. It's symbolism, poignancy, pain and joy overwhelmed me. My husband grew up in Iowa City during the time she was working there, only a few blocks away, and the feeling of living parallel but not aware of another being is remarkable. To think that 30+ years and hundreds of miles would occur before she would be known to us is striking. This exhibit renewed/initiated an interest in modern and performance art in me, to which I have formerly been lukewarm.
