Is it possible for someone working in a factory in Columbia to make enough money to pay for the flight to the US while all the time they are supporting their entire family? Wasn't part of the point of the film that Maria wasn't able to pay for the flight herself? Also, isn't the fact she is only an impatient 17--albeit street-smart and wise in some ways--and desperately wants to escape her reality part of the story? Drugs are a huge problem in Columbia but making such a film from the point of view of the "mule" is a great way to profile the ruthless gangsters who are making it all happen and show how the mules play into their hands at which point it's too late to back out.

    The film was wonderful.

    Re: There are alternatives

Ok, many of us move to a better place such as the United States because of the many options that we have here. However, I agree with the person before where we can come illegally and work hard to attain those "options" in a positive way. We are basically forced to live under "illegal" conditions because visas are not easily given to Colombians. WHy so??? The Americans are constantly promoting and maintaining the drug trafficking by purchasing and consuming drugs. How is Colombia ever going to get better if drugs are making people attain some sort of money. If you make money, why stop? We have millions of options, drugs aren't the only way out and if it were, then we'd all be druglords in Colombia.
