I think the point was that the father over medicated Large as way of controling or dealing with him. And I think even the neurologist said he had nothing agiasnt psychology or medication, but that it shouldn't be done by your father...
I took the point to be more of that this person in particular (ie Large) didn't need to be medicated.
Yes going of medication suddenly doesn't work, but it was a polt device.
