Reader comments on The Door in the Floor

Something that struck me (that didn't occur to me while I was reading the novel): why isn't this family in counseling? But then, I'm reminded that it's a story, and a damned good one, and leave it at that.

I particularly liked the way each of the major characters didn't infect me with their grief (I didn't feel like crying while I watched it). I believe that takes the whole project to another dimension as a work of art.

Every family understands grief. But sometimes the movies get it wrong, which is unnecessary and annoying. This time its right, and congratulations to everyone involved.

And of course, kudos to John Irving, who writes the best characters in literature (well, maybe except for the Bible).
