    Reader comments on My Architect

I saw the film yesterday (in Hyannis, Mass.),and found it quite moving and frequently beautiful. However, I was surprised that no notice was given in the film by Kahn's son Nathaniel to Temple Beth-El in Chappaqua NY, a building I know very well. It is an extraordinary work, since it is based upon and is an effective memorial to the wooden synagogues in Poland before World War II.I learned in the film that memorializaton of ancient buildings was a frequent objective by Louis Kahn, and Temple Beth-El is so successful in that regard, as well as being so beautiful in its own right. Why didn't Nathaniel pay attention to that building? In fact, he includes a quote by Moshe Safdie that is an implied denigration of the building, although it is not mentioned in the film.
