I saw this film lastnight, expecting an honest portrayal of the situation, and a good film as far as films go considering the accolades it has received. I was terribly disappointed. It did show the ridiculousness of the situation at checkpoints (harassment of Palestinians, mostly seemingly innocent), over and over and over and over again. I was bored to tears! It didn't bother to contextualize the harassment of Palestinians at the checkpoints with any sense of the reasons behind them, whether justified or not. I have a feeling that this film has been praised more because it confirms stereotypes of cruelty of Israelies than because it is a good film, or because it portrays a balanced reality properly contextualized. For so many individuals who know nothing of the history or situation in the Middle East, "Israel Bad...Palestinians Oppressed" is enough of a message to please them. I didn't bother to stick around for the discussion with the film maker afterwards because based on the boos being shouted out by many audience members, I couldn't take any more!
