Reader comments on Uncovered: The Whole Truth about the Iraq War

    Subject: Ugly Americans

Well, people, here is a reasonable exposure to a long debate that still has relevance, were it to appear on your local news station. Here, at some point, you will probably recall some of the less inflammatory explanations for how Bush Jr. transformed from a proponant of humble foreign policy and compassionate conservativism to a victim of nEo-con hijackers. Some presidential paradoxes spring to mind too. For example, exercising power and retaining popular support force presidents into decision processes that are fraught with complication. This documentary shows how shallowly the public is treated by the White House public relations officials (and most media icons too). Read a good book: The Paradoxes of the American Presidency by Thomas E. Cronin. I'm an undergrad Political Science student and let me say that the propoganda efforts of the current 00-04 administration are shoddy, and more disturbingly, they really work. Here are more ideas of paradox from Cronin's book: What exactly do Americans want from their president? A strong and innovative leader or someone who primarily listens to the will of the people? A programmatic party leader or a pragmatic bipartisan coalition-builder? A president who exercises power forcefully or someone who establishes consensus before doing anything? The Paradoxes of the American Presidency, 2/e, suggests that Americans want the president to be both a leader and a follower, partisan and bipartisan, and innovative and conservative.
