This movie is being marketed as a charming tale about a spirited woman who dares to break the social codes of her tiny Italian island. In fact, this woman is mentally ill and it's clear that her behavior disturbs her children, husband and extended family. They want to help her, but she would rather hide in a cave and let them think she has committed suicide. Aside from the Lord of the Flies existence of her sons, who grapple with and strip rival gang members to humiliate them, the community has inexplicably placed all the island's dogs in concrete bunker and left them there to gnaw one another. Is this a metaphor for the dog eat dog world of island life, cut off from enlightened civilization? Who knows. The film does not make me care.
