Reader comments on A Mighty Wind

    Subject: Gentle Humour

I loved the folk scene and enjoyed this entertaining, engaging, charming and funny send-up. The parody is well done & consistently maintained so I felt a sense of "well it could have been this way" even though I know it wasn't. I found myself watching on 2 levels (enjoying both equally) 1) examining the workmanship of the narrative and characters, and 2) simply enjoying the movie at face value.

The disturbing aspect of successful music parodies is they reveal the truth of the old axiom that creativity is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Somehow I prefer to keep the mystery of music, poetry, literature and art a secret.

This is a very funny film, a lot of comments i have read are from people who are fans of the folk genre, and therefore seem to take it all a little bit to serious and suffer from nostalgia. This is over the top in a controlled style and Guest uses his experience from Spinal Tap, Waiting for guffman and Best in show to wrap this film up to be the best of all of the others. This film can't be compared to Micheal Moores honest and heart felt documentarys that are full of hard hiting facts shown with some great wit as A Mighty Wind is purely for laughs. I don't know anything about folk music and this film hasn't made me want to learn anything about folk music, but it certainly made me laugh out loud, this is a classic.
