Why would you think she was not a victim? Try to put yourself in her shoes for a second, would you have done anything different? How? Where would your strenght come from?
Don't forget that she didn't have almost no parenting, no education, no religious upbringing. We are what we are raised to be. She was not raised, but abandoned as a child and then abused.

    I liked it but ...

I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same reaction to Monster as I have. I think it's a good movie, but still a little ways from being the great film attraction that so many have laid upon it. (Charlize Theron desires every award granted her.) But I agree with the original review that "although Jenkins tries hard to be evenhanded, ultimately her film opts for a "Wuornos was a victim "scenario". I can't help to think, "Where did all those bullets come from?" "And when did she load that gun ... at least seven times?" As much as I empathize with a filmmaker trying to humanize Aileen, the truth still is that she killed seven people ... with an already loaded gun! There's obviously a level of premeditation here and yet the screenplay never attends to it. And, did she suddenly stop killing because she finally recognized her moral quandary or because law enforcement was already on her tail? Certainly, Aileen was a "weapon" ticking away in the community, created by the various sick men who abused her for years. And I admire this attempt at taking a humane look at her. But unfortunately I think it fell short of the mark.
