I've been a fan of von Trier for some time now, he is an intelligent craftsman. this is yet another inteligent take on morality. despite its awkward stylistics it was entertaining to watch, in fact i didn't even notice that it was 3 hrs long until reading some reviews.
Lastly, i must discredit von Trier to some degree because the story and setting here is pretty much a rip-off of a Mark Twain short-story called 'The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg'. But then again, von Trier acknowledges this by at first subtly showing the tom sawyer book from a narrow angle and then later on sticking tom sawyer (with mark twain's name at the bottom) in our face.
if you liked dogville and like trier in general, i recommend that short story along with 'the mysterious stranger', also by twain. perhaps the latter is the next installment in von trier's trilogy!
