Subject: A Sad And Gruesome Art Work

This is one film that can be rightfully acknowledged as an art. It's visuals are spectacular and even with such a minimal use of music and its graphic depictions of violence, it still maintains its sad and ambitious tone. The acting is superb with all the three leads performing admirably. I was most surprised with Bae Doo Na whom I've never really thought of as a great actress until viewing her fantastic performance in this movie. This film is clearly not for everyone because of its graphic depictions of violence. Some are actually off screen but with some of the gruesome results displayed, anyone can get a clear but downright sick idea of what had just occured. Such an example is the final ten seconds of the film, which I will leave the viewer to see for himself. Then again, many scenes in this movie are extremely sad and this depiction of an unhappy society is bound to disturb many viewers. The one thing I admired most about this work of art was the way the camera would focus on one particular everyday object and get some emotional impressions out of it. the camera also hardly moves during a scene, leaving it up to the brilliant actors to pull everything off. This is definately one of the most interesting movies I've seen for a long time and I recommend it to viewers who would not mind the extreme depictions of brutal violence and the sad overtone of the entire film. This is an extremely impressive work by Park Chan Wook.
