Subject: An object lesson on the joys of shared laughter
Date: Jan 4, 2004
I have a friend who, while a fan of film, does not enjoy going to the theater as he is hyper-sensitive to the surrounding patrons who he finds distracting. While I sympathize to a degree, I cannot imagine seeing a movie like "Modern Times" which I caught at the 2001 Toronto Film Festival, without an audience. The shared laughter at the spectacle of Chaplin's brilliantly coreographed slapstick heightened the entire experience. Any "DVD only" theater-phobes care to comment?
