Reader comments on The Fog of War

    Subject: Arlington Recollection?
    Date: Dec 23, 2003

There is a moment in this documentary when Mr. McNamara breaks down while speaking of the assassination of President Kennedy. He vividly recalls looking for a spot with the supervisor of Arlingtion National Cemetery that should be used for the final resting place of the president. He finds a beautiful location where there are "white crosses upon crosses". This location is approved by Jackie Kennedy, and this ultimately becomes the site of the eternal flame.

My only question is: Where are there crosses in Arlington National Cemetery? There are certainly headstones, but no crosses. I think this reflects the level of accuracy in Mr. McNamara's recollections. Before we take everything he says at face value, let's understand that the memory of this octogenarian is foggy at best.
