    I don't think any of you get it. He wasn't an SOB, he wasn't a rapist and he wasn't trying to trick her. As I mentioned before, he was just as screwed up and tortured as she was. It's not like I'm trying to defend rapists. I truly believe he really cared about her. Cheers to Montcrieff for leaving the film open. Imagine what cookie-cutter crap it would've become had she closed it, had Auster gone to jail. Ugh. This was a great flick and I fear that the majority of you couldn't be farther off from its true message.

    I agree it was disturbing, but the movie wasn't about statutory rape. It was about the real world and how troubled people often come together and have sex. As unappealing as it is, it is a fact of life that pretty girls get ALL men to think about sex. That is basic biology.

    Remember, it was only a movie. I think the director should have done a better job of portraying the teacher as an SOB earlier on. I think the movie lacked continuity, in that regard.
