I think you follow a nice line here - the POV is spread out among several characters, a single persona in conflict with herself in dream state - using bits & pieces from film & reality to cover over or come to grips with reality gone wrong
- see that line about dreams by Harper in Tony Kushner's Angels in America

Re: The Cowboy and Camilla Rhodes
The cowboy was significant in my own interpretation of this movie.
To explain what I mean. I believe Adam Kesher from the first act is Diane's perspective and anything said to him by the movie producers, cowboy, ect are hauntings of her concience. Notice in the first Act that Adam is vehemiantly against Camilla getting the part. The producer who drinks the espresso (the bitter cup) spits it out. Later, the cowboy says if you do bad, you'll see me two more times. Well later we saw the cowboy two more times in the movie which seems to hint that Diane did wrong by having Camilla assassinated. We also saw her drink a cup of espresso at the pool party when offered to her. Maybe I'm letting my imagination run wild.
