Anyone reading the remarks above should ask themselves a few questions, first, what about the woman who was imprisoned for having a girl when the ultra sound said it would be a boy? What was her crime? And why were the men involved in the prostitution imprisoned? Think back on the reasons given. It is the films obvious intent to say that the crime these women committed was that of being a woman.
And I might add, this film is an absolute masterpiece, flawless in every way. To say that it would have been more powerful had it paused and gone more in depth in the lives of fewer women is to misunderstand naturalism and fragmentation as forms of filmmaking. To refer to films that are slower paced than the typical Hollywood high-speed thriller as "tedious" is to miss one of the main points and disregard one of the main elements of an emerging school of cinema.

Prostitution is illegal!
I would like to say that this movie makes Iran's society worse than it actualy is. One way or another these women were criminals. Prostitution is illegal nearly everywhere, even though it wasnt clear why some of these women were sent to jail, but living in Iran I know poeple aren't imprisoned for no reason. How else would an escaped prisoner, man or woman, act anywhere else in the world? pretty much the same!!
