The movie adaptation is about adapting in general. Everything changes in the whole movie, donald dies, charlie gets the girl, susan wants her life back, and laroche changes to pornography and then dies! Along with the characters, the movie itself changes....completely. Also the movie Donald was trying to write....IS THE MOVIE!!! The cop (charlie) is being haunted by a serial killer (donald) sending him clues and taunting him (this idea is a clue to the ending) about where he has this women tied up in a basement (susan in charlies mind, he doesnt start making up her character until the ending). Then all of this is one person (susan is a made up character later, donald is and so is he). Using trick photography to make this work they do! Also they totaly go against Robert MacGee's book, he tells him no flash backs, no long monologues (beginning), no narrative, dont jump around and not to bring in a deux es machana (a character with no perpose but then all of a sudden he comes to life = Donald). This movie is 100% genius and a whole new creation of the word movie itself!
