    Hmmm...
Is Verite real? Is documentary restricted to the voice of god, talking head, and reality TV formulas? Sorry to say, documentary is also scripted. Very scripted. Very edited.
Does this film speak of media and representation? (clue: the filmmakers being interviewed) I think it's important to look at HOW the filmmaker is using their medium.
I believe Hany Abu Assad was successful in the marriage of fiction and "reality". These borders can and should be blended. I also really loved the direct reference to filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami and his obvious affection for "in car" dialogue. And I loved the Canadian girls' characture, out to save the world with her Unicef degree and skirt.

    Response to this comment:
Movie was fraudulently presented as a documentary

    Just wanted to point out:
This movie was originally presented as a documentary, and entered in documentary film festivals where it won some prizes. (Hotdoc in Canada, for example.)
However, it's a drama. The driver is not really a driver, but a cameraman for a palestinian news station, who also acted in another of the directors films.
The director of this movie has admitted that many scenes, including one where an Israeli soldier beats the driver, were staged and scripted.
I believe the film may well be based on many things that happen often in real life, but I still find it reprehensible that it is presented as a dosumentary when it is not.
