I met one of the band members on a flight from Frankfurt to Vancouver. He had gotten drunk with Havel the night before. He had very interesting stories about his and Havel's chilhood. Oddly enough, Gorbachev was on the flight too. Anyway, he lived on Vancouver Island and he gave me his address and phone number but I lost it. If he (you) see this posting, please email me.

    Plastic people Movie

Yes there are "gaps" in the movie's history, but it was filmed for the band's home country where that information was well known. I've always felt it strange that more American people weren't interested in the plight, and music, of the Plastics. But they,as you've said, were doing what they loved, not as a show for the outside world, but for themselves and their friends/fans at home. So,one reason might be that they ,mostly, sang in their own language.
Also, yes, they don't have enough music in the movie, but I feel that we're lucky to even be able to see such a historic documentary about a band that truely did change their part of the world. Most of that early footage must have been hidden away from the government's police forces to have even survived! It is amazing, and, like they say in the movie itself,"like a faerie story ending" that the band,by just being themselves, helped cause such historic change. This movie shows us how lucky we are to have the freedom to express ourselves without persecution.
It's an amazing story of the human spirit!
