Subject: What was Bowling For Colembine?
    Date: Jul 16, 2003

Bowling for Columbine. To arrive on your top 10 list this film has to be defined.

Even a David Lynch film needs to be classified.

Winning an Oscar as a documentary forces the question as to what type of film is Bowling for Columbine.

Isn't it a documentary as much as the movies Best Of Show or A Mighty Wind are.

I think the film is an obvious attempt at "Getting Even" on a frustrating topic. As in other films by Michael Moore getting a laugh & entertaining was not the only main goal.

The use of undeniable altered facts to open the sences of the viewer to a topic is a waste of time no matter which side of a topic one takes.

For me a Michael Moore movie contains the following. A tired though popular topic with just enough altered truths to annoy some and excite others. It is like the tired old desert of brownies served with a hidden ingredient sure to get the party going for a while.

It's been my observation that the special ingredient that forces one to think in Bowling For Colembine and other Moore films has a relativly short term effect.

    Steven B.
